Windows XP Firewall and ICUII
The information below explains how to set up the Windows XP Firewall(s) with iCu2.
Please make sure you select the correct tutorial depending on which Windows XP Service Pack you have:
- If you have NoWindows XP Service Packs installed or Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed, the information is about 4 lines down.
If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, scroll halfway down this page for related information.
If you have no Windows XP Service Packs installed or Windows XP Service Pack 1
Make sure you have either disabled or set up "services" within the XP firewall so that iCu2 can function correctly. Only do one of the procedures not both.
Disabling the XP Firewall:
1: On your desktop, right click on "My Network Places" and select Properties
2: Look at all of the icons on the window that appears and check to see if any of the icons have a gold padlock on the top right of them, like the image below:![]()
3: If you see a gold padlock on any of the icons, you need to right click on the icon and choose "properties"
4: Another new window appears, click on the tab for advanced
5: Remove the tick/check from "protect my computer..."
6: Click OK and try iCu2
or
Setting Services in XP Firewall:
On iCu2, You need to go into iCu2s Tools - Options - Ports
Take note of the ports in the "Normal Ports" area that you see,
and then enter that information the XP firewall's "Services"
area, by following the instructions at the Microsoft
Knowledge Base. The link is provided below:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308127
If you need any assistance in doing this, please contact Microsoft as we cannot provide support for their Firewall
If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed:
1: Via your START button, select Control Panel
2: Click on Windows Firewall

3: You will now see a window with three options:
A: ON (recommended)
B: Don't allow exceptions
C: OFF (not recommended)

If it says OFF, you can stop reading this tutorial as the Windows XP Firewall is not active on your computer and will not be affecting your iCu2 program in any way.
If it says ON, make sure Don't allow exceptions does not have a tick/check by it. If Don't allow exceptions is ticked/checked, your iCu2 will not function correctly.
Then click on the tab that says "Exceptions".
You will now be presented with a list of Programs that you have either allowed or denied access to the internet.

If you do not see the iCu2 Video Chat Client listed. It should mean that you have not used iCu2 since you installed Service Pack 2. To remedy this, start iCu2 and when the Windows Security Alert window appears, select UNBLOCK.

If you do see the iCu2 VIdeo Chat Client listed but there is no tick/check by it's name, simply tick/check the area by it's name and click on "OK", then try iCu2.
If you see the iCu2 VIdeo Chat Client listed and there is a tick/check by it, your Windows Firewall is setup correctly for iCu2 (assuming that you do not have Don't allow exceptions ticked/check on the main window).
